What does this image mean?
It represents love, encouragement and a heart connection among all of the people who humbly show up and work with a generous spirit for mankind and Mother Earth. It reminds us that we (seen and unseen) are all connected around the globe in continuous circle of support.
We learned about this image from a Water Protector we met in Standing Rock, ND at Sacred Stone Camp during the demonstrations agains the DAPL. This Water Protector worked in the camp kitchen in the fall of 2016 and was still in the camps during the darkest days of winter when most people had left the camps and the temperature was sub-zero. He received a care package from New Jersey that included herbs, cigarettes, wool socks, a scrap of paper with this image on it.
In his words, “It feels so lonely sometimes, but when you see <+3 you know that you will get through because you have comrades supporting you.”
It came with a note from an anonymous donor that said, “Dear Water Protectors, there are not words powerful enough to thank you with. You are loved. Once upon a time when I was doing some intense relief work, a friend drew this on a slip of scrap paper and gave it to me. They told me that it’s a “one up heart, extra HP,” a reminder that your comrades are always with you, if not in person, then in all of their love for you.”
The Water Protector was moved to tears by the gift of this image and after receiving it said, “I just want you to know how much it means to me. What your support means to me. I love you. So, even though you are not here in person. Your hearts are here, and you are here in my heart. I care for you.”
He then gave us instructions. He said, “Take this little heart with the plus symbol and put it places. Give it to people… when we we see it around, we will know that a Water Protector was there. Or a Disaster Land person was there. Someone cares. We’ll feel a little more strength and a little more courage. A little bit more love. We’ll all be just a little bit more capable, whatever fight we’re in. Use that image. Share it. Give love to each other. Know that you are in my heart.”
We were so moved by his example and words that we had this image made into a bracelet to remind us of the camps, the feeling of community that we experienced there and the enormous generosity of spirit of all of the people who came from around the world to help, plus all who sent donations from far and wide.
Now, that we are not in the camps, we hunger to stay connected with that feeling and with each other. We hope that Water Protectors, relief workers and all people who are working to take care of each other and Mother Earth, (Rainbow Warriors) will consider wearing this image to remind ourselves of the deep connection we have to each other. Life sometimes gets discouraging. This is a symbol of encouragement and love. We see this and remember that we continue to be in each others hearts, so that we can continue to show up and do good work.
Delwin Fiddler, Jr., spent six months as a Water Protector at Standing Rock in 2016, praying and doing ceremony for the people at the camps. He receives continual requests to travel to different locations to pray and do ceremony for Water Protectors. Half of the cost of this bracelet will cover travel expenses for him to be able do so.
Please consider the purchase of this bracelet to wear or to gift to someone who is needing encouragement and love.
