Bringing Back the Magic: Our Spinner Ring Class at Juxtahub
Share
Before the pandemic, hosting hands-on jewelry-making classes was central to our studio life. We cherished those moments of creativity and connection with our students. Like many others, we had to pause and adapt. The good news? We’ve found a way to bring back that magic in collaboration with Juxtahub in Emmaus, PA.
While our studio isn’t fully operational just yet, partnering with Juxtahub has allowed us to rekindle our love for teaching. Although we’ve had to adjust—no torches, minimal water access, and leaving behind some of our heavier tools—we’ve embraced these limitations with creativity. We designed a class that fits within these parameters while still providing a rich, hands-on experience.
Our Spinner Ring Class
Our Spinner Ring class focuses on the fundamentals of metal texturing, using simple tools like hammers and dies, giving students the opportunity to get creative. Each participant receives a Sterling Silver Interchangeable Spinner Ring base and materials to craft their own custom ring set.
Challenges Lead to Creative Solutions
Despite not having torches or our full toolset, students craft stunning, intricate rings using hammers to create textures. It’s amazing how much you can achieve with just a few hammer strikes! The class is designed around practice—students start with Bronze Ring Blanks to experiment on, and once confident, they move on to Sterling Silver, Gold Filled, or Rose Gold Blanks for their final pieces.
We guide each student through the process of making textured rings, demonstrating how to use riveting and chasing hammers to craft ripple patterns, simple hammered textures, and shaped rings using dies. By the end of the class, everyone leaves with a beautiful, personalized spinner ring.
